Care1st Avondale Resource and Housing Center

The Care1st Avondale Resource and Housing Center benefits residents in the Southwest Valley including Avondale, Goodyear, Litchfield Park, Tolleson and surrounding areas. The first of its kind in the Southwest Valley, this multifaceted hub for human services was made possible by the innovative public and private partnership between Care1st Health Plan Arizona, Inc., First Things First and the City of Avondale. The Center acts as the hub for human services, workshops, special events and resources and referrals. Workshop topics such as parenting, car seat education, nutrition, budgeting, healthy homes, and kindergarten preparation are offered. Dental screenings along with developmental, hearing and vision screenings are also available for families with children 0-5 years of age.  Families may also utilize services such as medical enrollment, WIC, English tutoring, rent and utility assistance, employment assistance and more.  The Center also has a designated learning and play area for children to utilize while their parents receive services as well as for developmental playgroups. Programs and services are available to residents at no cost.

Services include:

  • Women, Infants and Children (WIC) application and renewal services
  • Programming for families with children 0-5 years of age
  • Support for pregnant and parenting teenagers
  • Job search and career counseling
  • Legal aid services
  • Application assistance and referral for Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) medical insurance and Affordable Care Act, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps) and the cash assistance program
  • Medicare and Medicaid benefits counseling
  • Citizenship classes
  • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) services
  • GED and ESL classes and referrals
  • Domestic abuse support group and referrals
  • Training and support for child care providers
  • Tutoring in English and literacy
  • Community Action Program (CAP) services
  • Housing assistance and referrals
